Get out of your way! Todays lesson, simple as, get out of your own way!

Get out of your way! What do we mean by that? When it comes to being creative, in life we should always be creative, we’re creating our own lives anyway but more often than not we constantly react, overthink things, constantly reacting to your environment. By doing so you get in the way of progress!

We are trying to break it down, you have got your conscious and your subconscious or unconscious mind if that is what you want to call it. Your unconscious mind might have the solution, it might be fired up, it might be motivated to work towards your goal. Your conscious mind just says f**k that!

We have something called universal intelligence, this is getting a little bit more on the spiritual side of things, so will keep it quite plain, the universal intelligence or the subconscious are all connected. We can tap into this, but you can’t do it via the conscious mind, your thinking mind, your thinking mind id useful for certain scenarios but when it comes to your personal growth, get your thinking mind focussed on an objective and then get out the way!

Basically let your subconscious mind do its job! Problem solve for you or drive you onwards or keep you going! Don’t let your conscious mind become self destructive force, we have all done it! You have had a long day, your working towards a good health plan, you’re training well, you’re supposed to be exercising that evening, the conscious mind starts to come up with stupid ass decisions that your unconscious mind would kick its ass for.

Emotions take over, you could workout or you could do a bit of journalling because that would help, or you can sit on your backside and watch some tv and just be entertained at.

You’re conscious mind just gets a bit arrogant, saying id don’t need to do that journalling, I don’t need to do that extra gym session because I know better, The unconscious mind is like ‘get out the way’

The thinking mind can be very useful, its good to sit and daydream. Now daydreaming mind is a bit of a cross between the conscious and unconscious mind. When you really get into a deep daydream, its annoying when someone comes up to you and asks ‘what are you thinking about’! they realise that you are own this trance state daydreaming, its this sort of cross between. One of the lines from John Lennon, Imagine, ‘you’re a dreamer but I’m not the only one’ now I would say absolutely! You should be allowed to dream, because why not!! You should be dreaming of the absolute picture perfect reality of you and then…get out the way!

Give yourself permission to dream and then just simply get out the way and live that life. Just be that person, don’t over think it, don’t over analyse it, just be!

Video Transcript. Losing weight is very much like solving the Rubiks Cube. Too many people it would be something cool to do but see it as a damn near impossible task. However, with a little knowledge, engaging your logical brain (rather than emotional) and a little specialist advice then losing weight is just a matter of applying a few simple algorithms.

We can argue the point that everyone, within their youth, had or has a friend that owns/owned a rubix cube. You’re certainly aware of them regardless. Generally, as soon as you pick it up, you will say that it is quite complicated, id love to be able to do this!! And THAT is how we see weight loss.

Roughly 10 years ago, I was going on holiday with a soon to be ex girlfriend. So it hen challenged myself to learn how to do the rub cube…which I did whilst away. Returned from the holiday and showed coach Stephen how to do it! He was fascinated! When you see someone completing something that seems impossible, it gives you the desire to also complete it!!

One if the first things that Rab taught me was that a rubix cube does not have 6 sides! It has 3 layers. That very simple truth that there are 3 layers, rather than 6 sides is your first major step in completing it! This is how we compare it to weight loss.

When you attack the rubix cube in a layer by layer basis, you the suddenly have bit more of a strategy. Your first goal is to get the top layer. Once you have got that, you then address the middle layer while still keeping the top layer in place. Finally flipping the cube round and attacking the bottom layer. You then have a very specific strategy. If you have zero strategy, you will probably get zero results. The same as when you were growing up, trying to complete the cube without a strategy, you would fail.

So generally speaking, the truths are, there are 3 layers and the middle pieces on each side, never move! They’re a few basic truths and this is the same for weight loss. When it comes to weight loss, way too many people, when asked how is your hydration?, respond with I drunk when I am thirsty. We have our own algorithm getting your hydration spot on but even before you get tot that, generally most people will say they should be drinking 2 litres of water per day…yet they don’t do it.

It is understanding the basic principles of hydration, you know you need to be hydrated, you know you need to get some really good nutrients in, you know you need to get some form of physical activity. These are the home truths that when you understand them you realise that you can then complete the first layer, without knowing anything else.

So when it comes to the rubix cube, we just mentioned the term algorithm, because there are whole bunch of algorithm that are fundamental in completing a rubix cube. You will be extremely lucky to jump in and complete the cube with no strategy! The exact same applies to weight loss. There some fundamentals that you have apply and if you don’t, you will not get any results!

One of the fundamentals is hydration! So if you’re not going to keep hydrated how do you expect to solve your own life weight loss cube!? Do what you know first before your start delving into all the different algorithms. Too many people look for all the fancy stuff! When people join our programme, we do go int the fancy stuff but not before you get to know the basics! Complete the basics first!

The second layer, again it is very simple. A series of movements and all of a sudden, you’re 2 thirds done! People have different methods. Some slower than others but you still get there in the end. If you do want to get there quicker, you can use the different algorithm in order to get you there faster. Again when you are applying this to your weight loss, you will look at the time in the week you have to exercise. If you only have 3 nights Oper week to exercise but if you want to get there quicker, you will find a way to extend that! Its about knowing how you can adjust your strategy to get there.

We are not speed cubers, we don’t care how fast you lose weight. All we care about is progress. Any one who has done our programme will know that one of our principles is to just make progress. We both have had clients that only 1 pound per week, get frustrated because its too slow and then they give up! It doesn’t matter how fast you get there, if you want to complete the cube/weight loss, do what works for you!

The way that I approach the cube, this more applies to weight loss, every time I pick up the cube I will start from fresh. As that is the way I learnt how to do it. My method of the cube, which also applies more to weight loss, if I want to lose weight, I will go back to the beginning and work my way through the fundamentals. We would encourage you to do the same. Start at the beginning.

When it comes to the third layer, which is the most complicated one, you need to look at your overall position and learn a few different things. When it comes to weightless it is a very logical thing. If you put negative emotion in to your weight loss you will damage your long term progress. Just relax with it and be very logical about it.

The bottom lines is, people get freaked out about weight loss because they thinks it’s impossible. Once you learn the possible algorithms that apply to you, you are winning!

Do not stress about your weight loss, there are algorithms and strategies that we give you! If you follow them you will get there in the end! Whether you take a quicker route or not, you will still get there in the end!

There are still many people who fail to take action until they have all the pieces of the puzzle put together. Drop the perfectionist mindset and instead aim for progress. It really doesn’t matter wherer you are starting from. Just start!

Progress is key. Progression in every element of your life is vital to be successful in everything that you do. Too many people look at all the in’s and out’s, try to create the perfect plan for them, they the n worry about where they are starting from. The only thing that matters is that you establish where you are right now and that you make progress over the upcoming weeks, months or even years.

You then ask yourself, well what is progress? If it was exercise, it might mean 1 single extra rep, slightly more weight, it mean getting to the gym that extra session one week. It mean getting an extra 10 minutes doing cardio. That is progression.

When it comes to lifestyle factors as well, you might think I don’t have time to exercise, set your alarm 2 minutes earlier than what you would normally would. You may think 2 minutes won’t solve anything, it is a start! Its progress. Once you are used to waking 2 minutes earlier, you can then go for 5 minutes and then 10 minutes etc. Slowly but surely you are creating a lifestyle that is suitable for the goal that you are trying to achieve.

You might look into your hydration levels, it might be getting enough water in everyday. If you struggle to hit a particular water target initially, aim for 200ml more, build it up. Or if you get 1 full day in, go for a streak – multiple days on the trot. That will be progression.

Now, sometimes in life, you might look at your own personality and think you would like to be a slightly different way. To progress, you would need to think, what can I do today? I could strike up a conversation with one stranger. Thats a start. I can smile at somebody, if you cant bring yourself to make the words, make eye contact with somebody, smile and then move on. Thats progress. Once you are then comfortable with that side of you, Then you can make another step forward.

Have a look at the areas in your life that you want to make improvements on. Then measure where are you right now, look at where you want to be and look at the first natural step. Little bits of progression and then just keep working towards that every single day.

Regardless of how bog or small these progressions are, just male progress.

Put The Ork Into Your Work! The works in the 41st millennium create massive machines that defy physics… but they work because they BELIEVE they will work. Put the work back into your work by believing in what you do.

So there is a series of books that I read, The Warhammer Universe, which is based in the future. If you have ever seen The Lord of the Rings, you would of seen the Ork characters. Imagine those, but in the future.

In their particular universe the oak’s are a bit mental, they live for war, but nevertheless they build these gigantic war machines that shouldn’t work. They build these oversized constructions with massive guns that just shouldn’t balance and are so huge they shouldn’t move, but somehow they do!

Within that universe, the other species don’t understand, and cannot see the sense. The beauty if it is what they call orkish. And orkish is when they believe! These constructions work because they believe it will work!

It’s that age old saying of the bumble bee. Certain people continuously say that a bumble bee should not be able fly due to the physics of the whole thing. The size of the bumble versus the size of the wings and how many times has to move its wings and somebody forgot to tell the bumble bee!

There is a lot of truth behind this in everyday life! we just don’t know what is true and what isn’t. More often than not, we can convince ourselves that something isn’t going to work because its improbable, or we just cant control that she of life. Whatever the excuse may be, what we have experienced and what we certainly try to teach our clients, is you can make anything work if you truly believe.

A lot of the top sports stars, you could probably argue that of them are orkish. What I mean by that is, when watching sports, like rugby, you have winning players in that team, basically if they are winning players, they are not done until game is done! Even if they are losing! They believe that they can get the job done!

They never once doubted themselves, they believed that the game was still winnable. There are some games when teams are down 4/5 tries, come back in after half time determined to bring it back! This is very orkish because they believe it will work!

So what we say for your own lifestyle whether its a health and fitness journey, you got to put your heart and sole into it. You need to truly believe it is going to work. If you don’t believe its going to work, then don’t do it! You will be just wasting your time!

Think about all the magical things people have achieved over the years and question how did they do that! Take those situations and think about your current goals, as soon as you believe it is going to work…it will work!

In everyday life, when you believe in something 100% that it is going to work, you are opening up all your senses to take in information that is going to help you get there.

If you already believe its happened you need to open to other possibilities and you will then be aware of certain things that you weren’t aware of before. Things come into your life by you believing 100% you can achieve something.

So put the work back into your work.

This months question is from William.  Whats a good way of staying motivated when you don’t have a training partner?  

Particularly because for us we have online programmes as well as clients within person, and with Bothe this cases we are then becoming the support network.  So when you don’t have a training partner and you have to rely on yourself, so sometimes having a well thought out plan, that you can stick to, that certainly goes a long way to keep you motivated.  

When you break it down, what you are looking for is how do we stay motivated.  Real it down and answer…what am I trying to achieve?  Why is this important to me?  Start with a goal and then once you have the goal you need the easiest way to get there.  What happens with most people is they start with a very vague statement of what their goal is.  You then start to put all these limitations on yourself and before you realise, a couple of weeks have passed and then admit that you are just not motivated for this!  What we like to say is, get a very specific goal first of all, and a time frame to achieve it all, and answer why it is important to you, because when it comes to motivation you have 2 types.  You have external motivation and internal motivation.  External motivation is, for example, your personal training standing over you pushing you on!  Internal motivation comes from within and you want to do this for yourself.  So think about the reasons why you want to achieve your goal. This can then often push you on and keep the motivation.  

When you have your end goal, it is very important to then break it down into much smaller chunks.  Right down to daily micro-chunk, even hourly goals!  Simple things like your hourly hydration and nutrition.  As you are achieving these goals, you will be getting a sense of fulfilment and this is where motivation comes from, its about succeeding.  Now granted you have got your long term goals, but as you are achieving the smaller goals you are getting wins, and wins lead to more wins!  Micro goals, whether that’s hourly, daily, weekly are all aimed to your end goal!

As personal trainers, there is nothing more satisfying than a client coming to us, saying they have completed all the little goals and want to know what is next!  They are so motivated to get onto the next step!  That is what you want!  Cheat the system by making small goals and getting the wins and in turn the confidence.  Sometimes you might already know what is next or if you don’t, you ask your coach for advice.  

The way that you measure these little wins is very important.  Im working with a client at the moment and she has multipole ways of measuring her goals.  Not only does she have the numbers on the scales, she also has the numbers on the measuring tape and she has this walking jacket that she wants fit into.  Her long term goal is to have the jacket on, zipped up and fell comfortable and slim.  So between numbers on a scale or a measuring tape, she has three ways of measuring her wins, which ever one it may be.  Dont just rely on way of measuring your success.  If you have multiple ways to measure, you then have more chance of success.  

In a nutshell, staying motivated without a training partner, all comes down to you.  It comes from internal motivation, doing things for you because it makes you feel good!  In order to get that, start with small goals!!

Are you still living your same old life hoping to achieve different result?  Too often we hear people talking about what they’ll do when they are fitter.  How their diet will be when they’re not so stressed.  

What are you waiting for??  Go Big or Go Home!  

So todays lesson is going to be go big or go home!  We are going to start with a bit of a scientific nature by quoting Einstein!  We are going to out some physics in to our physical!  Einstein quoted ‘everything is energy and that’s all there is to it.  Match the frequency of the reality you want and you can’t help but get the reality you want! It can be no other way.  This is not philosophy, this is physics!’ 

You have to match the frequency of the reality that you want, which means if you are that person who’s jeans fit perfectly inside, you have to match the frequency of that person.  What do you do on a daily basis?  How do you love your life?  They say that doubt is the biggest restriction to what you can achieve.  We are big believers in forward projection, putting our thoughts out there into the world and attracting what it is we are trying to achieve.  So if at any point we doubt why we want to achieve, that puts road blocks in our way.  So for us, we want to go big or go home.  We are thinking about the end goal, we have to think big and go big or there really is no point!  

If you are following a weightless journey or a fitness regime and you start putting road blocks in your own way, you are allowing doubt to restrict your progress.  So you have to really think and believe what you really want to be!  It will then manifest itself if you put the energy into it!  

Even if you have made progress to this point, what we want you to start thinking about is all the the thoughts, feels, emotions, actions that got you this place will not necessarily get you to where you want to be. Think about the reality that you want and match the frequency of that person.  Think about the person you are deep down and the person you are going to be when you have everything in order!!  Go Big or go Home!!

Your personal reality is a result of your thoughts, feelings and actions. Unfortunately it difficult to have fresh thoughts when you are constantly in the same environment.  Experience new surroundings for new thoughts.

So today we are at St Fillins, a place we have never really stopped before.  We are feeling quite philosophical today, we both recently had a few things going on and as always we trying to grow and develop ourselves, both personally and professionally.  

Todays lesson is something you can also take on board if you are thinking about developing yourself, maybe with your fitness, weight loss, wellbeing or just your general health.  Its difficult to create a new you if you stay on the same environment.  You have to change things up.  

If you are constantly waking up in the same bed, waking up to the same person, going through the same routine every day it’s difficult to break that cycle.  The neurones that fire together, wore together so if you are constantly in the same environment its difficult to create new thoughts.  

So, get out somewhere new, change your surroundings and ultimately you will open up your mind and you start to see things from an outside point of view.  Change your environment to change you!  You then create a new vision and a fresh new outlook on your life. You can guarantee you will have this magical brainstorming experience where you will think of all these new potential outcomes of your life that you maybe couldn’t see before!

When you come to the beach you’ve just got to dog a hole right!! The lesson that we have for you today is if you want to get yourself out the hole, you must first put down the shovel!  Obviously this is a metaphor!  Basically what this is saying is, generally with health and fitness or life typically, you can end up digging yourself a hole!  The only way to get out of the hole, is to stop making it worse to begin with!  

So if you are wanting to get ft and healthy but you are eating rubbish, you must first stop eating rubbish because that is making things worse!!  What you have to understand is, we are very habitual creatures.  We do things in cycles, its the way the brain works.  So if you are in the cycle of going on crash diets or eating rubbish food, it could be something that you think is a positive thing but always ends in a negative, like restricting your diet too much which then reduces your metabolism which then makes you crash the diet and you then put more weight on its just a cycle where you end up digging yourself into a deeper hole.

If you are digging a hole, you might actually be using the wrong type of shovel in the first place!  All yourself, why are you digging the hole on the first place!?  What purpose is the hole serving?

So Rab and I have just been discussing a few different things.  One of the main things we have been discussing are our potty mouths!!

So if you are new to the channel we can tell you that we have just finished filming fir a TV project, which is quite exciting…BUT one of the things we have had to do is clean up our act a little bit.  However, we still have our principles and wan to be ourselves.  We want to insult each other, we want to insult you  and we want to get insults back!  Thats just how we role!  There will still be swearing…dont worry about that!!  From time to time, we do have to clean up the way we talk!  

One of the movies we were discussing was Demolition Man, basically, because they are in the future they don’t get aggressive and its illegal to swear in the future!  

So the idea we have got, we need your help!  Billy Conolley says that f**k off has no English equivalent!  You cannot translate it in to English!  So having said that, we want your best insults or put downs and then the polite English equivalent!

Give us ammunition for firing at each other and then the polite way of doing it and we will feature the best ones in a video at a later date!
